Winter work update

The Bucklebury Estate's forester has started work on the gully just to the west of Fanny's Lane. For your safety, please follow signs.

The Fanny's Lane car park will remain closed for a few weeks so that it can be used for the operation.

Thank you for your patience during this period.

Heart braking by the ecological disaster I have seen today walking in the Common. All the mature trees that has been cut, clear cut, what sort of ecological management is that!? Shameful!!!

Hello

Thank you for your interest in what's going on at Bucklebury Common. I am sorry that you are upset about the tree felling.

This work is being undertaken to increase diversity on the common, by creating more open space in the woodland especially in the wetter areas. This will encourage more wildlife to thrive.

Although the work looks dramatic, we are only felling relatively young trees - providing more space for the veteran trees to thrive. The area will recover in the next year or so and will be more varied and better for wildlife.

You can find out more about wood pasture here:

I hope that this answers some of your concerns.
