Green Gym at Bucklebury Common

The Newbury and Thatcham Green Gym were out in force this week on Bucklebury Common.

They were helping to look after the rare heathland habitat by pulling out the small birch saplings that the digger had missed earlier in the winter.

This is vital work to stop the heath turning into much less ecologically rich birch woodland.

The Woodlark will soon be returning from their winter homes on farmland, and will find the heath in excellent condition because of all the work undertaken this winter.

The Green Gym will be at Thatcham Nature Discovery Centre on the 13th of February. See their website for more details.
